Anna's Story

Anna came to the Baby Boutique early in 2003 with her one-year old son after escaping an abusive marriage. She had lost her job due to a difficult pregnancy and had been living in various shelters before securing transitional housing through the YWCA.

At the Baby Boutique, she was able to get clothing and equipment for her baby. She was so appreciative that she began to volunteer at the Baby Boutique that summer and continued volunteering even while attending school to earn her Certified Nursing Assistant Degree.

The demands of school, a young child, and homelessness often left Anna tired at the end of the day, but her desire to give back motivated her to return each week to volunteer. Since graduating with her CNA degree, Anna has found a job in the in-home healthcare field and is in a much better position to care for herself and her son. She continues to improve her quality of life and is enjoying much success in her career.

The tangible items Anna received for her son were vital to her successful efforts to stabilize her family.
